My project idea:
The goal for my project was to have students come full circle with their learning by creating an assessment and using it to test their peers. I encouraged them to "think like a teacher". I had them ask themselves, and shared in a small group, what are the skills being learned, how can you as a teacher have your students (peers) prove mastery?
What questions would you ask?
What we used:
We used a free website called kahoot.it. This website allowed students to create their own account and design their own quiz so it could be used to test their peers.
Overview:
Students use a variety of websites to help and support their learning and get support for skills and concepts not yet mastered at 80% or above. They were encouraged to use these websites as a resource for developing their quiz using kahoot.it.
Essential Question:
What does it mean to be successful?
Objective:
Students will be able to access websites and resources to gain knowledge not yet learned and/or practice skills not yet mastered and complete computer and teacher generated assessments to prove 80%+ mastery of skills .

Who are they?
My class is made of 6th to 8th grade students who scored between 375 -425 on their last years math SOL test. I have 2 classes of each grade level and in each class their are those with IEP's, 504 plans, and ELL's up to but excluding level 5. Although I follow the electives schedule, my class is assigned to students and not a choice.
Why are they here?
They are here for math support and intervention. The focus of the class is to provide as much support as possible so each student increases their mastery and confidence with math. Another focus of this class is to fill in the learning gaps so they have the best chance with the SOL test at the end of the year. I am able to do this with individualized lessons designed after a placement test is completed using the newly purchased program called "Think Through Math", (TTM)
Before TTM:
Before the TTM program was purchased and implemented students used a variety of websites, workbooks, resource handouts and teacher created activities and assessments so I could monitor and adjust their lessons.
I explored a website called khan academy which a student I had a few years back used to help her test out of 8th grade math and into Algebra . This was a time when you had to prove eligible for algebra placement. I liked the website because it had a full curriculum with language options and topic searches as a way for students to independently explore, practice and learn the math skills needed for success.
For assessments and data collection, I used a website called thatquiz.org which is a website used by many math teachers I know and work with. This website has teacher created lessons and assessments and the option to create my own quizzes as well as a language option and skills practice for independent student practice by strand and skill.
After talking with a 7th grade student in my class, I explored the website tenmarks.com. This was a website she used in the past. I incorporated this website into my daily activities because I could assign lessons specific to math SOL's
Because there was no ACPS remediation program, and this is a computer based class, I adapted the websites available to create a scaffold for my students. I then used another website called kahoot.it so showcase student learning.
What they did to show their learning:
Students created a quiz to use for peer review and assessment using kahoot.it
Before they created their free kahoot account they used a graphic organizer to create quiz questions, showed the steps for solving, and had their peers edit and make suggestions for change.
They used the websites worked on in class as a resource and to help generate ideas for their question. They were able to edit available questions from the websites as well.
Quiz questions were peer edited, checked for accuracy and then they set up their kahoot account.
Peer support was given so everyone could set up an account and type questions. Students shared their knowledge of the website navigation tools, for example, inserting the division symbol to their quiz. Together, they supported each other in finishing their kahoots on time. Students were given the option to create a second quiz and/or continue to help others finish if there was time remaining.
After the students presented their kahoot.it quiz to their class and students took the quizzes, they had a chance to reflect on their experience in writing using Google Docs. I used this reflection piece as part of their assessment grade. I was looking for the connection made to the available resources they used in their daily activities and how they would recommend these resources to help a student learn and master skills taught.
